Fish report - Black Rock 7-17-04
Drove up last Friday to the end of the road above Black Rock Station to an unimproved campground. No water, spring has run dry from the drought.
Saturday am was spent doing GPS navigation with Christy McGuire of the DFG, whereupon completing that, we did a fair 2 mile hike in to a meadow to do Golden Trout samples with fin clippings, to send off for genetic analysis.
This is all part of the Cal Trout volunteer program this year for genetic sampling.
Clouds started building up to the south and the east by 11 am, getting darker and more ominous, so that by 1:30pm, the rain started falling. A wet hike back to camp to cover everything resulted in a massive thunder and lightning display, with continous on/off deluges until about 5:30 pm, when the sun startedshowing again.
Fishing was good in the meadow, dapping little caddis flies. Nice hike, however, lots of traffic in and out with backpackers.
Another fine Golden Trout.
