Fished above Ant Canyon on Friday. Weather was cool and cloudy, upper 50's-low 60's, nice when the sun was out, but cold when it dipped behind a cloud, which happened more & more as the day went on. The river was lower than I had expected, and clearer. Plenty of wading opportunities. Broke out the spinning gear for the first time in a couple of years. Fished a #2 Panther Martin, gold blade, black body, yellow spots. Had a fish on right away but lost him. Fished under and around the boulders on shore, and took a noce fish out from under one rock. 11", very healthy. Switched to a yellow Caliber, and got many hits in one pocket, I just couldn't hook them. We went to take a look at the snowline up on Sherman Pass. Very little snow, the road stopped being plowed at about 8500'. It was foggy and snowing slightly, so we couldn't see much.
Fished on Saturday above Hospital flats- a beautiful stretch of pocket water. Weather was much nicer-low 70's, brilliant blue sky, the river was holding steady and clear. Hopped and waded all around, fishing dry flies. We had absolutely no takers. Royal Wulff, Adams, Humpy, Mosquito, Caddis, Madam X, nothing worked. Karen did get a hit on a Yello Stimulator, but that was it for the day. It still beats work. Matt.
